About Us

Black Point Corporation is a privately owned entity of the heirs of P. Shaw Sprague who use it to manage their common interests. The primary tie that binds the 3rd, 4th and 5th generation of the family is its ownership of properties in Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough, Maine assembled by Phineas W. Sprague in the early years of the twentieth century.

P.W. Sprague, a native of Malden, Massachusetts, was a successful coal and oil businessman, developing C.H. Sprague & Son which his father had started. He was attracted to Maine by both his business interests and his passion for the outdoors. He was an early participant in the creation of the Prouts Neck summer community and began to assemble various farmsteads in Scarborough and nearby Cape Elizabeth into an estate that totaled over 2,000 acres. He engaged in various farming, horticultural and sporting pursuits. His interest in conserving and preserving these properties for the benefit of his descendants led him to place the properties within The Sprague Corporation which he formed in 1920 to hold and manage the properties in perpetuity. The mission of the family and Black Point Corporation, which is the owner of The Sprague Corporation, is to continue to fulfill the original vision of P. W. as passed down to us from by his son P. Shaw.
